If your problem is very complex, Email counseling may only be a short-term support at best. There are also some issues which are not appropriate to the format of email counseling. They are best served by direct contact with a behavioral healthcare professional:
If you want to hurt or kill yourself.***
If you want to hurt or kill someone else.***
If your issue has to do with any type of harm towards a child or senior citizen.***
If you hear voices, have visual hallucinations, or believe others are talking/plotting about you.
If you have been hospitalized for mental illness, and have not been able to get your issues under reasonable control. (i.e., maintaining consistent use of medication(s) that reduce your symptoms & are involved in a working relationship with a Psychiatrist or Medical professional with prescribing authority.)
If you are very anxious and having panic attacks, you will be helped best by direct contact with a counseling/mental health professional.
If you have experienced any form of physical attack, or are dealing with any form of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
If you are dealing with any gender identity disorder or question.
Any counseling that has been mandated or required by any legal authority, or to satisfy a court sentence.
Any counseling that has been mandated or required by an employer, school, etc.
*** Communications that indicate these circumstances will require me to notify authorities, or inform other people, and thereby violate your right to confidentiality. The laws of all states allow for, and require me to make these notifications.
